Did you know that Colindale was once home to largest aircraft manufacturing company in the world? Or that in 100 years, it has had 4 – going on 5 -- tube stations? Before the 20th century it was all fields and farms, then it became dominated by factories, and now it is one of largest developing suburbs with over 14,000 people moving there in last decade. Who were the people who came to Colindale? Where did they work and live? Who are the people coming now to live here now? What can they look forward to in the next 100 years?

Part of East & SE Asian (ESEA) Heritage Month, Barnet Libraries hosts Eclectic Tour's Chinese Food in British Culture talk.
The Chinese went from being viewed as ‘inscrutable’ and ‘dangerous’ in London’s Limehouse Chinatown to opening Chinese restaurants in every city and town in the UK that became an established part of everyday British life.
Based on Eclectic Tours’s Chinese in London walking tour, this talk examines how Chinese food became a British dining staple and how that helped change perceptions of the Chinese since
they first arrived as seamen in the 1800s.
