Part of East & SE Asian (ESEA) Heritage Month, Barnet Libraries hosts Eclectic Tour's talk Chinese Food in British Culture - More than Chicken Balls, Curry Sauce and Chips.
The Chinese went from being viewed as ‘inscrutable’ and ‘dangerous’ in London’s Limehouse Chinatown to opening Chinese restaurants in every city and town in the UK that became an established part of everyday British life.
Based on Eclectic Tours’s Chinese in London walking tour, this talk examines how Chinese food became a British dining staple and how that helped change perceptions of the Chinese since they first arrived as seamen in the 1800s.

This talk is based on Eclectic's Discovering Colindale & Its Role in Early Aviation walk. Come hear about flying in the early 20th century and what became of the London Aerodrome in the decades following its heyday through to the present.
